As a child, the creative play of SESAME STREET made me want to become a professional artist. With THE MAGICAL WAND CHASE, I was able to contribute to the Street with the movie's title designs and a fully CG Muppet, the antagonist for the new TV special.
The movie was a fantastic adventure for the Sesame characters to leave the Street and visit other diverse neighborhoods and we needed to create a CG character that was modeled and textured by Joe Jones to look just like a felt, fleece, and feathered Muppet but was free to fly!
Creative partner Rickey Boyd is himself a Muppeteer and was able to record his hand performance with a special glove that fed the tracking data to our Animators.
Alternate Concepts
voiced by actress Elizabeth Banks, who was also game to play The Bird disguised as a human
In addition to the bird design, I was asked to design the opening titles and closing credit art. Based on a construction paper aesthetic inspired by paper crafts in the first scene, I was able to use the credits to continue to tell the story and imagine a scenario where our bird became a resident of the Street and made a home on the iconic SESAME STREET sign.
